Denbeigh Whitmarsh (she/her) is starting an MA in English Literature at Queen鈥檚 with a special interest in rural Canadian oral history. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching at the Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand), and a BA in French Literature at McGill University, where she studied the semiotics of oral literature in France and its special relationship to the land as a mnemonic device and cultural repository. She plans to further pursue this line of questioning at Queen's, but now through the lens of settler Canadian oral literature, with special attention given to the impact this literary colonization has on the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island.
