Elyse Richardson, who recently graduated with a degree in Classics and Art History ('20), began this project in September 2019 as an independent research paper under her supervisor Dr. Barbara Reeves (Classics). This fascinating website explores the short-lived Museum of Near Eastern Archaeology (1954-55) at Queen's, which was conceived by Dr. A. Douglas Tushingham, a Biblical Archaeologist and scholar of Old Testament criticism. Although the physical museum no longer exists, Richardson has been able to recreate its tangled history from the original excavations that spurred its creation, through its opening and eventual closure. A gallery includes colour images of the original 20 museum objects, representing Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age cultures. This online exhibit brings a little known piece of Queen’s history back to life:
