Dr. Juliana Bevilacqua, who joined the Department in 2019 as a specialist of African, Diaspora, and Afro-Brazilian art, is among a select group of international scholars chosen to participate in Afro-Latin American Art: Building the Field, a continent-wide travelling research seminar convened by the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at the Hutchins Centre, Harvard University. Funded by a Getty Foundation Connecting Art Histories initiative, the research group brings together diverse scholars who are exploring the transnational dynamics of this emerging field. Dr. Bevilacqua, who is the only representative from a Canadian university in this research group, is now producing a book on the Afro-Brazilian artist Agnaldo dos Santos (1926-1962), and she will be giving a lecture on 鈥淎frican and Afro-Brazilian Art Collections in Brazil鈥 at the Clark Art Institute on February 25, 2021 as part of its Art Worlds of Brazil lecture Series. The Department extends its most sincere congratulations to Juliana!
