Susan Calder, Artsci’96
Wife of Andrew Calder, Com’99 (1975-2019)
For our family, it has been incredible to see Andrew's friends and family support the Andrew Calder Men’s Volleyball Athletic Award in his memory; we were truly overwhelmed by the level of support. Andrew believed in giving back to the things that had the ³ÉÈË´óƬ impact on his life.
Volleyball provided a grounding element while Andrew was at Queen’s, helping him to balance his time and energy between sport, academics and friends. Through consistent practicing and competing in volleyball games, through wins and losses, Andrew gained and learned so much about perseverance, leadership, confidence and, most importantly, friendship. He was a patient leader which helped to influence his successes in his work life and his family life after Queen's.
Having an award in Andrew's memory means that his name will live on in such a meaningful way. Andrew valued his time while at Queen’s, after Queen’s, on the volleyball team, with teammates, friends and roommates. His love of the game will hopefully be passed on to many current and future Queen's volleyball players. Being part of the volleyball team had such an impact on Andrew through his love of competition, the comradery of a team, the pure joy of sport and the incredible friendships it built for him. With donations from Andrew’s family and friends, we hope that The Andrew Calder Men’s Volleyball Athletic Award helps future student-athletes continue to follow their passion of playing volleyball at Queen’s University.
