Queen's Black Alumni Chapter (QBAC) volunteers are alumni and students who give their time, resources, and support to QBAC and Queen's community. Volunteer support the priorities and mission of the chapter through a variety of ways including events, programming, and mentoring.

Devon Aransevia, Artsci ’17, President

Devon Aransevia

Devon Aransevia (she/her) is an experienced business strategist known for her ability to drive success through integrated planning, process improvement, and collaborative teamwork. After graduating from Queen’s with her Bachelor of Arts in Global Development Studies, Devon went on to complete a Master of Arts in Global Governance at the Balsillie school of International Affairs.

Passionate about equity and inclusivity, Devon served as the Co-Chair of the Principal's Implementation Committee on Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion (PICRDI) at Queen's in 2017. Driven by a deep commitment to positive change, Devon strives to foster inclusive environments within organizations. She firmly believes in empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds to thrive, dismantling systemic barriers through collaboration and innovation.

As President, Devon will be focused on expanding the geographic reach of Queen's Black Alumni Chapter and establishing a team of committed and passionate alumni.
 

Vacant, Director, Operations

The Director of Operations is responsible for managing internal operations and administration for the Chapter. This position will collaborate closely with all portfolios to ensure that all administrative processes are executed seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a system of tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan
  • Support the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against annual goals
  • Manage continuous lines of communication with fellow members in operations portfolio
  • Manage the annual operations plan calendar
  • Manage the Chapter mailbox ensuring that email messages are actioned in a timely manner
  • Manage all executive team communications on Slack
  • Take and track detailed notes during all executive team meetings
  • Manage all administrative tasks as needed
  • Identify best practices to improve internal processes 

Time commitment

Five to seven hours per month. 

Vacant, Director, Finance

The Director, Finance will set QBAC’s financial policy and direction while also being an
active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy. The Director, Finance will lead all
financial administration and budgeting for the Chapter.

Responsibilities

  • A leader with broad finance experience ideally in accounting, budgeting, reporting, and control.
  • Partner with the Co-President on all operational and strategic issues as they arise
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the president based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with QBAC’s strategic plan.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow executives to acquire, cultivate, and manage the Chapter’s relationship with donors.
  • Oversee and approve all funding activities to increase external support for the Chapters mission and programs

Time commitment

Three to five hours per month.

Vacant, Director, Marketing & Communications

The Director, Marketing & Communications will set and guide the strategy for all marketing, communications, websites, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate QBAC’s mission.

The Director, Marketing & Communications will be responsible for QBAC’s varied and integrated communications products and services including newsletters, social media and photography and videography, and marketing. This position will lead a team of volunteers which includes Social Media, Communications and Visual Content.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance the Chapter’s brand identity, broaden awareness of its programs and priorities, and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences
  • Refine the overall marketing strategy
  • Oversee the development of marketing materials
  • Enforce brand guidelines and ensure creative designs adhere to standards
  • Put communications and marketing vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well
    as to test the effectiveness of communications activities
  • Actively engage, cultivate, and manage communications and marketing relationships with the
    press and other partners
  • Oversee communications and marketing budgets and plans

Time commitment

Five to 10 hours per month.

Vacant, Director, Social Media

The Director, Social Media will develop and execute social media and digital initiatives including developing and managing viral marketing campaigns. The candidate will build awareness about QBAC activities using key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Responsibilities

  • Draft content for external communications on social networking platforms and the Queen’s Black Alumni Network (QBAN) powered by Mobilize i.o
  • Work alongside the Director, Marketing & Communications to conceptualize a cohesive, clean and crisp aesthetic across all social platforms
  • Work alongside the Director, Outreach & Partnerships to create or include equitable and inclusive content
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences through social media
  • Strong visual, creative, interactive, and conceptual thinking, and capable of communicating effectively both verbally and in writing

Time commitment

Five to 10 hours per month.

Vacant, Director, Events

The Director, Events is responsible for leading the organization of outstanding, engaged and unforgettable events for the Chapter. This role is responsible for all parts of event preparation including venue confirmation, guest list coordination and nametags, seating plans (as required), and evaluating success afterward. This position will lead a team including the Director, Virtual Events.

Responsibilities

  • Host and facilitate engaging events to foster alumni connection
  • Collaborative with members of the executive team to execute all Chapter events at a high level of excellence and professionalism
  • Collaborate with the Director, Technology & Digital Asset to set up online event description and registration processes
  • Liaise with vendors, sponsors, and stakeholders during the event planning process to ensure that everything is in order
  • Book venues and vendors as required
  • Conduct post-event evaluations including preparing and sending out surveys to guests
  • Prepare post-event reports documenting event statistics including guest numbers, areas of success, and opportunities for improvement
  • Recruit and manage a team of volunteers to assist with event planning and day-of-activities.

Time commitment

Five to 10 hours per month.

Vacant, Director, Programming

The Director, Programming is responsible for organizing and informing members of the Queen’s Black Alumni Chapter of outstanding and unforgettable programs and initiatives. This position will lead a team of volunteers including the Director, Equity & Inclusion and Mentorship Program.

Responsibilities

  • Organize engaging programming and initiatives that foster connection between Black alumni as well as Black identified students at Queen’s
  • Create initiatives and programs that will contribute to the professional and educational development of past, current, and future Black students
  • Create and/or share initiatives on programs that provide a platform in which Queen’s Black alumni, Black student groups, and faculty can share resources and/or opportunities

Time commitment

Five to 10 hours per month.

Vacant, Director, Outreach & Partnerships

The Director, Outreach and Partnerships is responsible for the development of QBAC’s greater network. The Director, Outreach and Partnerships is the liaison between the Queen’s Alumni Community, campus groups, and all other allies. The Director, Outreach and Partnerships has the important role of helping QBAC to create and maintain lasting relationships and positive interactions with stakeholders. This position will lead a team of volunteers including Student & Faculty Partners and Affinity & Corporate Partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead partner stewardship, recognition, acknowledgment, and communications, acting as the lead contact for partners
  • Identify, initiate and maintain a strong relationship with existing and new partners
  • Collaborate with the Director, Operations to oversee the compilation and maintenance of a partner database, and related reports.
  • Sustain open and frequent communication with Director Marketing and Communications to facilitate transmission of opportunities to our members and partners.
  • Keep track of email communications related to collaboration and/or partnership request coming through QBAC email account and inquiry form
