William Yu, Sc’84, MBA’87 wished there were more paid international summer internships when he attended Queen’s. Now as a managing partner of a global capital investment company, Cansbridge Capital, Mr. Yu and his wife Ms. Diana Liu sponsor a unique summer internship program that gives third-year commerce and engineering students experience working in Asia.
The program started in 2011 and is now in its third year. Students apply and once accepted use their initiative to find their own jobs and the program guarantees them up to $600 a week for ten weeks, to cover expenses. Students have the opportunity to work in locations such as Hong Kong, China, Japan, India and Korea.
This international internship allows students to improve their intercultural communications skills, develop new skills and greatly expand their horizon that are increasingly important with globalization. “The program provides invaluable work experience in a unique emerging Asian market, which will strengthen students’ employment opportunities after graduation,” says Brian Marchant, Director of the Business Career Centre at Queen’s School of Business.
