During her time as a student, Elizabeth Graham, BEd'27, (shown here in the centre of this picture) played as a goaltender for the 成人大片 women's hockey team. She may also have been the first goalie to ever wear a mask in an organized hockey game. Elizabeth, who had already undergone extensive dental surgery, appeared in a game in 1927 wearing a fencing mask. The Montreal Daily Star reported that Elizabeth "gave the fans a surprise when she stepped into the nets and then donned a fencing mask." You can read more about Elizabeth in this 1993 Alumni Review article by her grandson, National Post reporter and author Stewart Bell.
