New events announced in Principal Deane鈥檚 strategy discussion series

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane continues to share his vision for the future of Queen鈥檚 University as part of For the Future virtual series, designed to highlight key strategic pillars of the vision for the Queen鈥檚 community.

The two For the Future events scheduled for May follow the successful launch of the series on March 31 in Toronto with 鈥Re-imaging Education for Impact.鈥 The discussion focused on the university as a driver of innovation and change inside and outside the classroom while preparing students to make a positive impact on the world.

Community for Impact

Community for Impact,鈥 the second event in the series, takes place virtually on May 5. The panel discussion will explore the renewed commitment Queen鈥檚 has made to community partners locally, nationally, and globally.

Principal Deane鈥檚 vision outlines deliberate, strategic, and mutually beneficial partnerships with communities beyond the walls of the university, especially with local partners such as the City of Kingston and other communities in Eastern Ontario.

鈥淲hat we do matters,鈥 Principal Deane noted. 鈥淲e care about our community, and we show we care by working with community partners to deepen our impact. We welcome and are strengthened by the diverse perspectives of our community partners. Together, we can tackle the world鈥檚 most urgent challenges.鈥

Impact Through Research

On May 26, Principal Deane will host a virtual discussion about the relationship between teaching and research at the university. 鈥Impact Through Research鈥 will explore the ways in which research and scholarly excellence advance social impact and sustainability in the Queen鈥檚 community and at the national and international levels.

"At Queen鈥檚, research informs teaching. This embedded perspective cultivates an environment where faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students work together to gain new perspectives from their collaborations. Queen鈥檚 provides opportunities for students and researchers to apply their passion, curiosity, and problem-solving abilities to society鈥檚 most significant challenges,鈥 Principal Deane said.

The remaining events in the For the Future series will share additional information about Principal Deane鈥檚 vision and will be open for registration in the coming weeks.
