Johnson Award (Calgary Branch)

The Johnson Award pays tribute to lifelong contributors to Queen鈥檚 University, the Alumni Association, and the Calgary community. It is named after Ernie, MD'38, and Edna Johnson, whose generosity and dedication to their alma mater and community span more than 30 years. The Johnson Award will proudly carry Ernie and Edna's name and spirit for future generations of remarkable Queen's alumni in Calgary.

Selection criteria

Nominees are reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • Is a Queen's graduate or Honorary Degree recipient.
  • Has a history of active and outstanding contributions to the Queen's alumni community globally.
  • Has a history of active and outstanding contributions and volunteerism in the Calgary community.
  • Is an active contributor, through volunteerism and/or financial support, to 成人大片 and its students.
  • Has significantly contributed to or impacted 成人大片鈥檚 reputation through their professional and personal lives and community involvement in Calgary.
  • Is not currently employed by Queen鈥檚 University (please note that any contributions made as part of a nominee's Queen's faculty or staff duties cannot be considered in the nomination for the Johnson Award).

The Calgary Branch Johnson Award is being presented to Donald MacDiarmid, Sc'82, for his contributions to Calgary, his total engagement in the Queen's alumni community, and his role as an ambassador for Queen's through his notable career and lifelong community service.
