Canada Post Service Resumes – December 17, 2024

Important information about Canada Post Corporation and Queen’s Cheque Payments

Canada Post operations are set to resume on December 17th, 2024. As a result, Financial Services will resume printing cheques on December 17th, 2024. This will also be the final cheque run of 2024, with the next cheque run scheduled for January 7th, 2025.

We continue to encourage all vendors, students and staff to be set up for payment by EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer), ACH (Automated Clearing House – aka USD EFT) or VPA. Payment via one of these electronic methods is often received on the same day.

Due to the potential backlog of mail, there may be a delay in cheques being delivered by Canada Post. Taking these possible delays into account, please note that we will not cancel and reissue cheques unless at least 30 days have passed from the cheque date. We will however continue to cancel cheques and reissue them as an electronic payment (EFT, ACH, or VPA).

As a reminder, there are a number of benefits of EFT/ACH and VPA payments:

  1. Emailed notifications containing the remittance details with each payment
  2. Often payment is received the same day as processing and/or within 2-3 business days
  3. We currently run EFT/ACH and VPA payments twice weekly so it’s a more frequent payment schedule than cheques
  4. No more lost or stale dated cheques
  5. No more delays with mailing cheques
  6. EFT/ACH and VPA payments are more secure than paper cheques and offer better fraud protection
  7. Specific information on the differences between  EFT/ACH and VPA payment options can be found here: Payment Terms & Methods | Strategic Procurement Services
