On March 3, the Master of Industrial Relations (MIR) program at Queen鈥檚 University hosted the Inter-University Negotiation Cup Competition in which six MIR students faced off against a group of Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources (MIRHR) students from the University of Toronto. A competition that has been held since 2008, this year marked its return after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The students participated in a six-role, five-issue negotiation simulation in which they sought to settle a modernization agreement in the healthcare industry. All the students put much effort into preparing and then bargaining to settle an agreement. At the end of the day, those students designated as competing for the cup (our six MIR students and six MIRHR students) were split three to three with Toronto just eking out the win on the points total and returning the cup to UofT.
This year鈥檚 participants from the MIR program included: Jacob Bishop, Brennan Marchessault, Aidan O鈥橬eal, Benjamin Streatch, Harleen Sohi, and JC Thivierge. We commend these students for a great performance in this year鈥檚 competition. They served as great representatives of our program and our field!
