Professor of Psychology, Michigan State University. Dr Rokeach's professional concerns include the relation between individual psychology and the formation of social and political attitudes and beliefs. He is the author of Open and Closed Minds and Three Christs of Ypsilanti.

GORDON BROWN
Professor of Electrical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A former Dean of Engineering at MIT and on authority on servomechanisms, Dr Brown will discuss aspects of the interaction between technology and society.

MICHAEL SWANN
Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University of Edinburgh, Dr Swann is a zoologist. A Fellow of the Royal Society, he is currently advising the British Government on science policy and has strong views on the social responsibilities of the universities in the modem world

Professor of Law, University of Manchester. Professor Street has taught at the Harvard Law School, and his publications include a best-selling Penguin Book, Freedom, the Individual and the Law.

MICHAEL POLANYI
Fellow of Merton College, Oxford. Formerly a research chemist, Dr Polanyi is internationally known for his work on the nature of scientific knowledge and the relation of science to society. He was one of the founders of the Society for Cultural Freedom.
