Job Description: Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the CEC-REN Youth Outreach and Education Coordinator will plan, coordinate and execute events designed to engage youth of all ages in issues and research on emerging contaminants, particularly in aquatic environments, and efforts to ensure safer water for Ontario.

What you will do:

  • Liaise with schools, school boards, public libraries, and other community and industrial partners in Kingston and South Eastern (SE) Ontario;
  • Coordinate logistics, volunteer recruitment, plan and execute age-appropriate presentations, group discussions, scientific demonstrations and interactive activities;
  • Retain and provide records for reporting requirements;
  • Create content related to youth outreach for CEC-REN social media;
  • Maintain CEC-REN involvement in the annual Science Rendezvous Kingston event;
  • Seek new opportunities for youth outreach and education in Kingston and SE Ontario.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and passion for Chemistry and Contaminants of Emerging Concern,
  • Ongoing graduate or fourth year undergraduate studies, or post-doctoral fellow.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous work or volunteer experience in youth outreach.

Approximate job start date: February 2025

Job length: to March 31, 2026 with possibility of extension

Salary: $28.00/hr

Hours: 0.1 FTE (3.5 hours a week).
