Fondly known as “Bob” by family and friends, Robert Melville Green passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Nov. 3, 2023. Predeceased by his parents, Melville Green and Ruth Green; and his mother-in-law, Sim Ying Leung Lai. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Paula, son Alexander; daughter-in-law, Qing Hua and grandchildren, Henry and Conrad; sister, Nancy (Doug) and brother, Bruce (Manon) and their families. Dearly missed by his father-in-law, Sau Nam Lai; sisters-in-law, Rosita (Frank), Myrtle (Liu), Violet (Mansion), and Mona (Paul); brothers-in-law, Michael (predeceased) (Karreen) and Gabriel; and his many nieces and nephews.

Bob left home in Montreal at the age of 16 to pursue his university studies, achieving a BSc (UNB), MSc and PhD (Queen’s) in Biochemistry, as well as a DPA (Carleton) and MBA (Ottawa) through part-time study. Building on his success in scientific and clinical research, combined with his superb analytical skills, Bob worked as a reviewer of drug and medication submissions at Health Canada for over 20 years. For a significant period, he acted as section chief, earning tremendous support and respect from his peers and colleagues.

Bob always had a keen interest in sports and music. He was a cross-country runner, cross-lake swimmer, and a seasoned badminton player. He played the recorder beautifully and was a bass singer with a local community choir for years.

Bob volunteered as coach, score keeper, manager, and umpire for both baseball and badminton, when his son was competing in these sports. He continued volunteering and coaching kids to teach them new skills. 

In retirement, he enjoyed travelling, going on cruises worldwide, live theatre, reading, and playing with his grandchildren.

Always socially and environmentally conscious, Bob was a local area coordinator, canvasser, or donor for many charities, notably: the Ontario Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Ecojustice, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, the Canadian Red Cross, and the Canadian Cancer Society. He was a regular blood donor with over 100 donations.

Bob’s signature beard, friendly and gentle disposition drew him close to a lot of people, especially children who often mistook him for Santa and were always happy to receive a knowing smile in return. Bob will always be remembered by those who have known him as a smart, kind, helpful, generous, and humble individual.

Almost a year to the day of losing Violet (his ‘Honey’), Edwin John Mills – our vibrant Dad and Grampa – passed away at age 96 on Feb. 11, 2024, ending a life filled with wanderlust and globetrotting adventures. 

Edwin is survived by his children, Michael (Anne), Terry (Doug), Steven (Erna), Christie (Dave), Rob (Cory), (Zbyszek); sister-in-law, Audrey Neufeld; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Edwin was predeceased by his wife, Violet; sister, Carole; and mother, Catherine Mills (née McClelland).

Edwin was raised on Eglinton Avenue above his grandfather’s bustling Toronto hardware store, and on a snowy hockey rink in Fitzroy Harbour in the Ottawa Valley, where he learned the value of close friendships and exploration. He joined the Canadian Army at 17. In his 20s, he enrolled at Queen’s, married Vi, and became a civil engineer. 

He took a job in Venezuela’s oil sector in 1957, when moving overseas with a young family was a novel and formidable undertaking. In the early 1960s they settled their family and made close lifelong friends on Weldon Crescent in Barrie, with Edwin working at York University on campus design and development, before moving abroad again to do similar work at universities in Botswana, Swaziland, and Lesotho. A lifelong fan of Toronto’s sports teams, sport featured prominently in Edwin’s life, and Vancouver’s North Shore offered the perfect climate for skiing, cycling, golf, and tennis throughout his active retirement years. 

Until his final weeks, Edwin walked the West Vancouver seawall at sunrise, where he’d laugh and swap stories with his friends enroute. Hours before he died, Edwin said that nothing made him as proud as the diverse and energetic family he and Vi raised. 

Marion Harbin passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at the age of 91. Marion spent 87 of her 91 years in Sudbury, the majority of them living on her beloved Lake Ramsey. Her father owned Sudbury Boat and Canoe and her mother, who was a nurse before having Marion and her cherished sister, Nancy, worked at the hospital in volunteer roles. The other four years she proudly spent at Queen’s, the alma mater of her aunt, sister, and cousins. 

She met her husband, Doug, while teaching at Nickel District Secondary School, where she taught physical education and coached many teams. It was impossible to go anywhere in Sudbury and not run into former students from Nickel District or Chelmsford High School, where she finished her career. 

A fierce competitor, Marion earned titles for skiing, swimming, tennis, canoeing, curling, dragon-boating, bowling, and bridge, and enjoyed fun games with her family, such as golf, ping-pong, French River bocce, card games, and board games, although she could manage to turn any of them into a competition. She loved to host bridge groups, Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, dining groups, and invited many people to join family dinners. 

Marion often said she helped build two houses holding the other end of a piece of lumber. In the first house in New Sudbury, they raised their four children, and in their retirement house on Lake Ramsey they hosted many family get-togethers with Jeff and Penny (Scott and Diane), Karen and Mike (Jaime), Greg and Dolores (Darolyn and Mathew), and Laura and Gerard (John, Cory and Julia) and their treasured great-grandchildren, Audra and Lyla. 

Always at home on the water, Marion loved canoe trips with her family into Killarney, particularly when they included her sister and nephews Rod, Neil, and Andy. She could whip up a blueberry pie at a moment’s notice, and the ones made with wild Killarney blueberries were the best. Marion was an active community member at St. Stephen’s on the Hill United Church and St. Andrew’s United Church, as well as at the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), where she held many positions and participated in fund-raising and scholarships aimed at creating opportunities for women. Marion and Doug also delivered for Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. 

Abundant with life-long friends, Marion and Doug travelled the world and had numerous gatherings at their chalet in Michigan and cottage on the French River with the Dicksons, Hanns, Pettits, Ryans, Perrys, Evans, Fields, Millikens, Stanyons, Bartolis, Stoltes, Dunns, Wells, Masihs, Urquarts, and many more. Marion was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and her pets.

Dr. Philip Ein Wannamaker, a loving father, partner, brother, and family member,
passed away on Aug. 22, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his daughter, Alexis Verson (Chris Petersen); partner, Barbara Wilson; brother, Robert Wannamaker (Karen Pipher; nephew, Aidan; and niece, Emily); the international tribe of geophysicists; and many other family members and dear friends.

Phil was born on Nov. 24, 1954, to Louise and Clifford Wannamaker in Belleville, Ont. Phil held a PhD in Electromagnetic Geophysics from the University of Utah (1983) and a BSc in Engineering Geology from Queen’s. Phil was active in basic and applied geophysical research in tectonics and geothermal for over 40 years – 30-plus with the Energy and Geoscience Institute. He was a renowned research professor in electromagnetic geophysics at the University of Utah, publishing 50-plus papers and advising 23 graduate student theses. Phil was happiest when he was working out in the field and led international teams in large research projects in U.S. Cascadia, Basin and Range; Southern Appalachia, New Zealand; and Antarctica. Dr. Wannamaker was an active member of the AGU, GRC, GSA, SEG, and ASEG.   In 2011 Phil was given the great honour of Fellow of the Geological Society of America and was a trustee and treasurer for the Gerald W. Hohmann Memorial Trust for Teaching and Research in Applied Electrical Methods. 

Phil also served as associate editor for several journals and as co-editor of a book on EM modelling and inversion and served on the board of Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology up until his death. 

Phil loved travelling all over the world with Barbara, his partner of 18 years, and he had a strong affinity for the Southern Utah desert, most particularly Capitol Reef. He was a member of the Native Plant Society, enjoyed developing his own native garden and helping with cultivation and preservation of native plants. He recently compiled and continued to work on extensive genealogy records for the family. Phil's comprehensive collection of 1800s maps and lithographs for the railroad survey in the Great Basin and Range area will be donated to a local museum for all to enjoy for generations to come. 

Robert (Bob) James Hubbard passed away peacefully at Kingston Health Sciences Centre on Nov. 5, 2023, at the age of 68. He was the loving son of Jean (née Murray) and the late Jerry (2001); dear brother of Peter, Tim (the late Sandra Turkington, 2011), Sandy, and Barbara Withers (Jim). 

He will be missed by his nieces, Selina (Ameer) and Larissa (Seena); nephews, Richard (Danielle) and Trevor; great-niece, Genesis; his chosen son, Robert Stevenson; his chosen daughter-in-law, Lisa Kelly; and many special friends. 

Madaleine “Bandit” Brookes passed away April 19, 2023, at 42. She is survived by her family of Queen’s alumni: her father, Allan Brookes (Sc’72); step-mother, Sarah Brookes (née Frost) (Artsci’80); and step-grandfather, Harry Frost (Arts’57).

Madaleine was a very active child. She was involved in swimming and gymnastics before she started school. She started figure skating and skiing at the age of six. She was given the opportunity to spend her first year of university at Herstmonceux Castle, an historic 15th-century castle in the U.K. donated to Queen’s by Drs. Alfred and Isabel Bader. Her other activities included kayaking, rollerblading, yoga, belly dancing, learning Arabic, and travelling to old European cities to see the history. A wine lover at heart, she was on her way to being a sommelier. She and her dad would spend a week each year skiing in Europe and then tour the classical history of the cities in Europe. 

She worked at Davies Ward Phillips & and Vineberg as an administrative manager in training.

At her celebration of life, a friend said: “The best thing about Maddy was her kindness and compassion. She taught me to be more empathetic and to give people second chances…. She always saw the best in people, and gently encouraged others to do the same.”

Roger T. Hughes died peacefully at his home in Niagara-on-the-Lake on March 7, 2024, after a brief illness. Roger is survived by his wife, Susan Peacock; his children, Timothy (Lisa Mantello), Michael (Elizabeth Laitman Hughes), and Megan (Milosh Rodic); and his grandchildren, Magdalen, Simon, Beatrice, Nathaniel, and Lucie.

He was born in Montreal in 1941 and grew up in Welland and Marathon, Ont. Roger graduated with an engineering degree from Queen’s and from the University of Toronto Law School in 1966. He enjoyed a successful career as a barrister, specializing in intellectual property litigation, but was happiest as a judge of the Federal Court of Canada from 2005 until his retirement in 2016.

A loving father and partner, Stephen Bennett (Steve) suffered a heart attack while riding his unicycle and later passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital on Feb. 18, 2024, surrounded by family. Steve is survived by his mother, Beryl; his sister, Patricia; his partner, Stella; and his children, Jenna and Stanley.

Steve was born on Sept. 1, 1959, in Clapham, England to Beryl and Peter Bennett. In 1965 the family moved to Ottawa, where Steve attended public school. During his high school years, Steve competed in long-distance running and cross-country skiing on the school team. With his cousin Dave Bennett, who Steve competed and trained with, he set a personal best of two hours, 43 minutes at the 1978 National Capital Marathon. 

Steve obtained a BSc in Engineering Geophysics from Queen’s in 1982. While working on his engineering degree, Steve was also a member of the Queen’s cross-country ski team for three years. 

Upon graduation, he moved to Calgary and enjoyed a rewarding career in geophysics as a seismic processor and programmer. He worked at Seiscom Delta United and Kelman Seismic Technology before founding his own successful company, Calcoulee Corporation, where he independently developed and leased high-end seismic processing modules. 

Steve was a celebrated athlete and remained active throughout his entire life. Along with running and cross-country skiing, he excelled in speed skating, windsurfing, and swimming. For his 60th birthday, he reached his goal of swimming 6,000 metres using the butterfly stroke (his favourite). During the pandemic he took on the challenge of learning the unicycle and completed the Goat Creek Trail from Canmore to Banff (20 kilometres) in the summer of 2023. 

Steve was known for his focused pursuit and mastering of any hobbies and activities that caught his interest. He taught his children about carpentry, raising pheasants, fishing, survival skills, and camping. Later in his life he became an award-winning beekeeper while also painting, sculpting and completing building projects on his property. Steve was always ready to lend a hand on any of his friend’s projects. 

Richard (Bud) Steinberg provided a masterclass on how to live a good life. In his 96 years, he scaled mountains, sailed seas, ran marathons, served his community, devoured knowledge, excelled at nearly everything he tried, and loved his family tremendously. And he was loved in return. So, so loved.

He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the afternoon of Feb. 8, 2024, after a brief illness.

Richard was married for 48 years to Jeannette (née Ustation), and 23 years to Arvella (née Litt) and loved both fiercely. He was father to eight children: Janis (Jim), John (Sherrie), Elise/Lisa, Martin (Debra), Matthew (Tina), Christopher, Andrew (Renae), and Geoffrey; and stepfather to Paul and Kim. He also leaves behind 26 grieving grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Jeannette, Arvella, Janis, as well as son-in-law, Robert; daughter-in-law, Helene; and siblings, Alvin and Marjorie. He is survived by his sister, Joyce.
Richard was born in Dearborn, Michigan, on the outskirts of Detroit, in 1927. He and his family returned to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1932 and, other than his time at university, he remained in the area the rest of his life. 

He studied mechanical engineering at Queen's and proudly graduated in 1949. He wore his engineer's iron ring throughout his life.

He spent the bulk of his career at J.M. Schneider in Kitchener, but it was outside of work where he truly shined: coaching his children's sports teams, building backyard skating rinks, tackling seemingly impossible physical challenges, reading voraciously, meticulously cataloguing bird sightings, cracking dad jokes, playing cards, completing puzzles of both the jigsaw and crossword variety, sailing the world, swimming and/or running nearly daily, and making it all look effortless.

He had a booming laugh, an explosive sneeze, an encyclopaedic knowledge of...nearly everything, really (one learned never to take him on at Trivial Pursuit). His hugs were legendary and his smile was infectious. Whether you called him Richard, Bud, Dad, PopPop, Uncle Bud, or Bumpa, he was sure to put a smile on your face and leave you just a little bit in awe. The world is a colder, emptier place without Richard in it. Heaven: You had better have your library fully stocked. You're going to need it.
 

Todd Arnold Barr died peacefully surrounded by family on Feb. 3, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kate Huband, and their two children, Gabriel and Bella; his mother, Joan; and father, Doug (Lee Mink-Barr); his siblings, Sarah Brawley (Maykel), Jay Mink (Ashley), and Marne Wood (John Halsey); sister-in-law, Louisa Huband (Craig Moffat); brother-in-law, Paul Huband; and his nieces and nephews: Harry, Lilly, Michael, Mason, Halsey, Virginia, McIver, Slade, Juliana, Phoebe, and Thomas. He was the cherished son-in-law of the late Ann and Michael Huband. 

Todd grew up in Toronto, attended Jarvis CI and Unionville HS and later graduated from Queen’s (Human Geography and Outdoor and Experiential Education). He also received his Masters of Education (OISE/UT) in 2003 in Community Development, Adult Education, Environmental Studies. 

Todd’s passion for community lay at the heart of his professional life, including his work at Taylor Statten Camps, Katimavik, Rural Communities Impacting Policy, Hospice Peterborough, Trent Community Research Centre, Drug Strategy Network of Ontario and Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough. 

He was an enthusiastic member of the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough and held board positions at the Peterborough Community Counselling and Resource Centre and the Peterborough City Soccer Association. 

A life-long educator, mentor and community builder, Todd touched the lives of many with his tender heart, playfulness, curiosity, and wisdom. He taught without preaching and effortlessly drew out the best in people. He embraced life with all of its imperfections, found meaning in the most challenging moments, and reminded us that one of life’s ���˴�Ƭ gifts is connectedness.  Todd was at his happiest in the outdoors and nature, which were the main inspiration for his poetry. He had a great passion for music of all genres and it played an integral role in his life. 

In his last weeks when words were failing him, music never lost its ability to provide hope and refuge. His zest for life was obvious when canoeing, dancing, coaching soccer or building community. But most of all, Todd cared deeply for Kate, Gabe, and Bella, whose sorrow lies in the memory of Todd’s gentle, loving kindness.

Thérèse Gauthier Lynch died at age 91 on Feb. 13 at her home in Pittsford N.Y. (Rochester). She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Michael O'Leary) Lynch, Paula (John) Feroleto, Michael (Michelle) Lynch, Terrance (Rose Audette) Lynch, and Anna Lynch; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Joseph (Susan) Gauthier.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1932 in Calgary. After having won, at age 16, the provincial scholarship to attend Queen’s, she got onto a train in Calgary in 1949 to Kingston – doing so over her mother's strong objections that she should instead go to the secretarial pool school in downtown Calgary, as respectable girls did. She was also only able to attend because her father worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad, so she could ride the train to Kingston for free. 

She was a graduate of the Class of 1955 and practiced anesthesiology for 35 years at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., before a second career as a hospital administrator.

Dr. William Robert “Bob” Whyte peacefully passed away on Feb. 23, 2024 in his 93rd year. Bob was married to Catherine Mary Leah “Mitzi” Whyte, the absolute love of his life for 66 years. He was the proud father of Bill (Elaine) Whyte, Patti Whyte, Cathy (Lorin) Pressé, Sandy (Larry) Jones, and Jill (Daniel) Greben. Loving grandfather to Zack (Taylor), Jesse, Graeme, Nicole (Justin), Michelle (Tyler), Michael, Alexander, Rachel, and Jon; and great grandfather to Henry, Theodore, Callie, Logan, and Reese. 

He was born and raised in Arnprior, Ont. and graduated from Queen’s School of Medicine in 1955. It was in Kingston where he and Mitzi first met, and they married in Ottawa on Nov. 19, 1955, before settling down in St. Catharines. 

Bob was extremely passionate about his work as a physician and was well-respected by his colleagues at the St. Catharines General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital, as well as by his patients. He was an anesthetist and a family practitioner. 

Bob enjoyed travelling the world with Mitzi, hosting big family parties, reading newspapers and books every day, spending time on his porch, hiking, fishing trips up north and watching football and hockey. He was the beloved patriarch and “poppa” of our big, tight-knit family and was never too old to play with his grandkids and great grandkids. His laugh, sense of humour and sense of fun were infectious. Even amidst the joyful chaos of a big family, he made sure that every one of us felt special. He lived his life to the fullest, and while our family is grateful that he enjoyed 92 wonderful years, no amount of time would ever feel like enough for us.

It was in 1950 on a train going from Kingston to Montreal for a football weekend that a Queen’s Mining Engineering student happened to spy a pretty young Queen’s Arts student sitting with her friend. He was so taken that he sat down beside her, introduced himself, and asked for a date. To his great delight she said yes. However, it was a bit complicated because both already had dates with other people. But they found a way to make it work.

Thus began the love story of Dorothy and Peter.

Dorothy Herbst and Peter Nixon (Sc’53) were married May 23, 1953 in Ottawa. They were blessed to have almost 70 years of joy and adventure until Dorothy passed away April 8, 2023. 

Daughter Carol was born in 1958 and son Ian in 1960.

The Queen’s tradition continued when son, Ian, graduated with an Honours Economic degree in 1983 and grandson Trevor Tomic graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 2012.

Harry MacPhee Lewis passed away in Calgary in what he liked to say was his 90th year. Harry will be sadly missed by his loving wife Eleanor "Her Lordship" (Hamilton); he was predeceased by his younger sisters, Anne McInnes (Angus) and Ruth Lewis; and survived by his brother Robert Lewis (Carol). He was the proud father of Cathy Lewis (Andy Yun), Gordon Lewis (Sherrie), Stephen Lewis, Trish Hanrahan (Artsci'87) (Pat Hanrahan, Artsci'87), and Anne Marie Lewis (Artsci'88, BEd'02) (Aaron Taylor); and the loving Papa Harry to Galen, Kieran, Scott, Caitlin, Willow, and Georgia.

Harry was born in Tampa, Florida, and raised in Paynes Mills, Ont. Harry graduated from Queen's in Chemical Engineering in 1956. It was in Kingston that he met Eleanor at the Catholic Newman club dance, which was the beginning of their 67-year romance.

His chemical engineering career took him all over Canada and the U.S. with Union Carbide, Sun Oil, GCOS, and then Suncor. Although he was not one for self-promotion, he felt privileged to have managed the engineering design and build of the first commercially successful Oil Sands plant in Fort McMurray. He took a calculated departure from engineering with a stint as a stockbroker, where he honed his investment skills, leading to a life-long daily love of stock charting and BNN watching.

His retirement years with Eleanor were some of his happiest and most adventurous, taking them to Europe and Asia. Escaping 20-plus Calgary winters, they enjoyed golfing and time with friends at their home in Nelson, New Zealand. Wine (longtime Opimian Society member) and gardening were his other passions. He lived long enough to be disappointed once again by his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He treasured his colleagues and friends all over the world. He especially enjoyed weekly golf with Keith and solving the world's problems every Thursday morning with his breakfast club.

His family would like to thank all the people who cared for Harry and made it possible for him to be with Eleanor until the end, including his loyal friend, Keith; caregivers, Raida and Svetlana; physios, Robert S. and January; Drs Vanda Phillips, Tina Chang, Paul Lathrop, and Scott Samis; and the staff at Riverwalk Retirement Residence, Foothills (Unit 62), Peter Lougheed (Unit 43), and George Boyack Carewest.

Elizabeth Ann Shaver (Barrett) passed away peacefully in hospital on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, in her 79th year. She was the beloved wife of Dr. Charles Shaver; loving sister of Susan Ward; dear mother of Andrew Shaver (Paul Sobol) of Toronto, Christine Shaver (Stefano Sonsini) of Ottawa, and Matthew Shaver of Ottawa; and the loving grandmother of Lorenzo and Luca Sonsini. She was predeceased by her nephew, Sean Ward. 

Elizabeth was a dear special friend of Dr. Jim Wong and family of Meaford, Ont.  She cared deeply about her extended family, her niece Katherine Ward (Razvan Nicolae), cousins, in-laws, and her many friends.

Richard (Rick) Wilton Edward Sterne passed away on Dec. 5, 2023 at the age of 79. 

Rick was born on Oct. 9, 1944 in Brantford, Ont. He attended high school at Brantford Collegiate Institute, Chemical Engineering at Queen's, the Ivey School of Business at Western University and, most latterly, the Rotman School of Management at The University of Toronto.

Rick loved his time at Queen’s and attended his 55th homecoming reunion in the fall of 2023 alongside his daughter, Jennifer (Sc’98, Chemical Engineering). Rick upheld a Sterne family lineage of Chemical Engineers graduating from Queen’s. His grandfather, Edward Tyghe Sterne, graduated in 1913; his father, Francis Eddy Sterne, graduated in 1946; and his daughter, Jennifer, went on to become the 4th generation, graduating in 1998. 

Rick possessed a spirit of positivity, passion, and generosity that would define his life. He was a leader and entrepreneur from the time he was a young child, organizing neighbourhood events throughout his youth and his school days. One of his early endeavours was founding the Bitter Grounds Coffee House during his undergrad years at Queen’s, for which he received the Tricolour Award in 1968.

He began his professional career at 3M Canada in London, Ont., then returned to Brantford as the executive vice president at Sternson Limited. He ran for two political campaigns before starting his own business, Datasym Inc., which began as a small team in his basement. Datasym went on to grow and offer employment to many in Brantford and the surrounding area for over two decades. In his later years, he became a director of Brantford Hydro and Brantford Generation, a member at the Social Security Tribunal of Canada and most recently was a CEO chair and executive coach at TEC Canada, where he shared his time and mentorship with other entrepreneurs.

Rick was a proud ambassador for Brantford and many of its organizations. He was most passionate about his work with Brantford Rotary Club (49 years), having served as both president and district governor. He was a past president of the Brantford Chamber of Commerce, chair of the United Way and of the board of governors of Mohawk College. He served on and chaired many foundations, including: the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the Grand River Trillium Foundation, and 29 years for the Samuel W. Stedman Foundation. He was vice-chair and director of the Lansdowne Children’s Centre, and a Jaycee for many years. Most recently, he was serving on the Laurier University board of governors and senate — a champion of the Brantford campus. Rick’s presence at community events and charitable gatherings was a testament to his commitment to making Brantford a better place for all.  

Rick knew how to balance the demands of life with moments of joy and relaxation. He loved spending time with family and friends who often found themselves embraced by his hospitality, fun, and positivity. He made Christmas’ magical for his children and grandchildren. He loved new adventures and travel, taking up scuba diving with his son, Eric; snowmobiling excursions with The Great Northern Ride; and organizing many family trips — especially his trips to Mexico with his wife, Jeanette.

His most favourite place on Earth was at the family cottage in the Bay of Islands, fondly referred to as West Point. There, he sought personal solace and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. We know his spirit will live on through the special memories and retelling of those stories by his children and grandchildren of the summers spent up there with him.
