The NFRF 2024 Transformation competition is expected to launch Spring 2023.
Queen's has initiated its internal process (see Important Dates). We expect that NFRF will add a research security and risk mitigation component to the application; please see Additional Resources for links to useful information. Other information found here is based on the 2022 Transformation competition; details will be updated after the launch.
The objective of the Transformation stream is to support large-scale, Canadian-led interdisciplinary research projects that address a major challenge with the potential to realize real and lasting change. The challenge may be fundamental, leading to a scientific breakthrough, or applied, with a social, economic, environmental or health impact. Projects are expected to be world-leading, drawing on global research expertise (co-PIs, collaborators), where relevant.
*Note on Interdisciplinarity: Projects that fall under the mandate of only one federal research funding agency (i.e. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) are not eligible.
The minimum award is $2M per year ($1,600,000 direct costs and $400,000 indirect costs) and the maximum award is $4M per year ($3,200,000 direct costs and $800,000 indirect costs). The duration of all projects is six years, and the competition budget is $144,000,000 (6-8 projects expected to be funded).
In order to submit a Notice of Intent from ³ÉÈË´óƬ, you must submit a MANDATORY Expression of Interest (EOI) and EDI Questionnaire by the deadline.
