Advancing Greater Housing Justice
Dr. Susanne Soederberg鈥檚 research addresses the critical issue of affordable housing scarcity which has led to increased evictions, homelessness, and challenges for vulnerable groups in securing stable housing. Her program evaluates innovative public-private partnerships aimed at increasing affordable housing supply, critically assessing their effectiveness and identifying the most successful approaches. As the Canada Research Chair in Just and Inclusive Cities, Dr. Soederberg aims to enhance the academic understanding of urban inequalities and translate these insights into actionable policy analyses. This work is vital for advancing housing justice and aligns with the mission of the United Nations鈥� Sustainable Development Goals. Her research spans global political economy, urban development, and the geopolitics of debt, underscoring her commitment to addressing urban inequalities.
Dr. Soederberg is conducting the first cross-regional comparative study of housing provisioning for vulnerable groups across five cities鈥擳oronto, Berlin, Vienna, Nairobi, and Beirut. Each city presents unique challenges and policy responses, and the study aims to pinpoint effective strategies for affordable housing on a global scale. This research is crucial for refining academic perspectives on urban inequalities and transforming them into practical policy recommendations to address housing justice.
