Background
Teaching and learning spaces that support innovations in pedagogy, enhance student engagement, and integrate modern educational technology are critical to the university’s academic mission.
To ensure Queen’s effectively supports innovations in program design and delivery, the university is developing a strategic framework that will guide the future planning of the university’s teaching and learning spaces. The framework will provide comprehensive guidelines to ensure that classrooms, collaborative workspaces, and study spaces foster innovations in pedagogy, enhance student engagement, and integrate modern educational technologies.
Recognizing the rapid evolution of technology, pedagogies and student needs, the framework will be flexible and forward looking, providing adaptable guidelines that anticipate changes over time. The framework will also incorporate the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Indigenization, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism (I-EDIAA) into the creation of teaching and learning spaces that are equitable, accessible, and meet the needs of diverse learners.
Consultations
The framework will be informed by consultations with faculty, staff and students as well as external stakeholders, such as City of Kingston representatives and prospective employers. The consultation sessions will be held in fall 2024, and the final report is expected to be completed in early 2025.
Working Group
The Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) has formed a working group that will oversee the development of the framework, with support from BDP Quadrangle Architects.
