Sean Marrs, a PhD candidate in the History Department, has won first place in the Matariki 3MT competition for his three minute talk, "City of Spies." His talk discusses the police surveillance of German spy Mme de Rebien and its connection to the foundation of a surveillance state in eighteenth-century Paris. Sean is currently working on his dissertation on state surveillance in eighteenth-century France under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Jainchill. Congratulations Sean!
