    Assertive Interpersonal Communication (ONLINE)

    Description:

    Assertive communication is a fundamental workplace skill and is critical to an environment of open communication. Assertive techniques can be used in any type of interpersonal communication. This workshop will cover various communication styles and the characteristics of open versus closed communication climates. Additional subjects covered include: the five components of an assertive message, determining when to use an assertive communication style, giving constructive feedback appropriately, and receiving feedback in a positive way.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Describe various characteristics of the communication process
    • Explain the role that perception and emotion play in assertive communication
    • Identify ways to listen empathetically
    • Assess your level of assertiveness
    • Determine some ways to increase your assertiveness
    • Develop strategies to communicate more assertively
    • Set some realistic goals to improve your assertiveness
