Description:
"The Antonym of Forgetting: Memory and Justice in Eastern Europe"
Abstract:
The great scholar Yosef Yerushalmi once asked: 鈥淚s it possible that the antonym of 鈥榝orgetting鈥 is not 鈥榬emembering,鈥 but justice?鈥 Today, we might add a few corollaries to this line of questioning: How to end the cycle of vengeance? How are we to protect memory while also shielding it from manipulation? When is it permissible to allow ourselves to begin to finally "move past the past"? Dr. Linda Kinstler will share how she has explored these questions through writing at the intersection of journalism, creative non-fiction, and academia.
