Paryushana-parva ends and Samvatsari (Day of Forgiveness) and Dashalakshani-parva begins

    When:
Wednesday, September 20, 2023 (all day)
    Description:

The holiest period of the year for the ascetic Shvetambara sect. During this 8 day period, concluding on Samvatsari, it is a time of dedication to Jain ideals through fasting, worship of the Jina, and reading the life-story of Lord Mahavira from the Kalpasutra. Religious accommodation for special worship may be required for this observance/holy day. -----

The Shvetambara sect observes Samvatsari by introspection, confession and penance. Religious accommodation for special worship may be required for this observance/holy day. -----

The Digambara sect celebrates Dashalakshani-parva for ten days (until September 10) by fasting, worship, meditation, confession, and by dedicating each day to a virtue: forgiveness, humility, honesty, purity, truthfulness, self-restraint, asceticism, study, detachment, and celibacy. Religious accommodation for special worship may be required for this observance/holy day.
