Ka'tarohkwi Festival of Indigenous Arts: Niigaani-gichigami. Oniatarí:io. (Lake Ontario) world premiere

    When:
    Sunday, March 24, 2019
    2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
    Where:
Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts
    Find on Campus Map
    Description:

Part of the Ka’tarohkwi Festival of Indigenous Arts, curated by Dylan Robinson

Two world premieres, devised through the collaborative efforts of several top Indigenous artists, consider the relationships between land and timbre and the site of the Isabel Bader Centre itself, situated as it is upon the waters of Niigaani-gichigami / Oniatarí:io (Lake Ontario).

The program begins with a new work: 'Untitled' (for Soundings) by Tanya Lukin Linklater featuring violinist Laura Ortman and dancers Ceinwen Gobert and Danah Rosale. Performers read an object–a Yup'ik rain gut parka from St. Lawerence Island in the Bering Sea–as a visual score, informing their music and movement.

This program also features the world premiere of a new collaborative work by Peter Morin, Jeremy Dutcher, and Bracken Hanuse Corlett.
