    Description:

Is student writing on your mind? Perhaps you’ve experienced student writing that exceeded your expectations or where your class clearly struggled with the research and writing process. We invite anyone interested in this topic (faculty, teaching assistants, librarians, staff, graduate and undergraduate students) to join a discussion group on student writing. How is writing developed and assessed in your department? What are the challenges and successes? Our goal is to meet regularly each month for six months to compile ideas for supporting student writing drawing on your experience and interest.

The purpose of this group is to provide an opportunity to share current practices and knowledge about writing instruction at Queen’s with an aim to help the CTL and Writing Centre better support faculty.  While we hope that participants will join us for monthly conversations for the next six months, you are welcome to attend any or all gatherings. Our goals are to:

    1. Identify what we know about student writing successes and challenges at Queen’s.
    2. Describe best practices for developing student writing in different disciplines.
    3. Create a guide for faculty that compiles ideas for developing student writing in a course and/or across a program.
