Recognizing Indigenous histories as foundational to urban planning and city studies requires disrupting conventional planning pedagogy and practice. Drawing from planning research and practice, this presentation will examine how settler and Indigenous partners must consider limitations, possibilities, and accountabilities associated with their roles as allies/accomplices in planning education and practice.
Leela Viswanathan is Associate Professor in Geography and Planning at Queen’s University and, Principal Investigator of the Planning with Indigenous Peoples (PWIP) Research Group. Her research interests focus on critical race, planning pedagogy, and enhancing Indigenous-municipal relationships in urban and regional planning
