    We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the book When the Pine Needles Fall - Indigenous Acts of Resistance, the first book from the perspective of Katsi’tsakwas Ellen Gabriel, who was the Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) spokesperson during the violent siege of Kanehsatà:ke and Kahnawà:ke in the summer of 1990.

    A conversation with Katsi’tsakwas Ellen Gabriel will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 2:30pm-4:00pm (Mac-Corry B201, Queen’s University) as a feature of the book launch. It will be moderated by Isabelle St-Amand. All are welcome!

    Katsi’tsakwas Ellen Gabriel is a Kanien’kehá:ka, Wakeniáhton (Turtle Clan), artist, documentarian, and Indigenous human rights and environmental rights activist living in Kanehsatà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Homelands. She is a 2024-2025 Visiting Scholar at the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures of Queen’s University.

    This visit takes place as part of the course LLCU 270: Contemporary Event and Indigenous Cultural Politics.

    It gracefully receives the support of the Principal’s Development Fund, Visiting Scholars 2024-2025; the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures; the Four Directions Indigenous Student Center; and the Department of French Studies.
