    Description:

The 2019-20 Thomas Courchene Distinguished Speaker Series Lecture features former Prime Minister Paul Martin in conversation with Kanonhsyonne Janice Hill, Associate Vice-Principal (Indigenous Initiatives and Reconciliation).

"Moving Forward: A Conversation on Education and Reconciliation"

The Right Honourable Paul Martin demonstrated support for Indigenous causes during his tenure as Minister of Finance and Prime Minister, culminating in the Kelowna Accord of 2005.  Since that time he has devoted much of his life to these causes, focusing in particular on education of Indigenous youth.  Hear him address why the well-being of Indigenous Peoples is so important and how education and partnership efforts can deliver benefits for all Canadians.   After leaving politics, Mr. Martin joined with members of his family and others to create the Capital for Aboriginal Prosperity and Entrepreneurship (CAPE) Fund and the Martin Family Initiative (MFI). The MFI has a clear and essential mission: working with Indigenous leaders, governments, and private sector partners, to support K-12 education for Indigenous children, and the wider determinants that influence their educational outcomes, including health and wellbeing.
