Description

Are you ready to elevate your teaching for the 2024-2025 academic year? Join us at the Course Design Institute, designed to help you create or refine your course and prepare you for the upcoming teaching journey.

The Institute will be offered in-person over one day in August. Please note that the sessions will not be recorded.

Why Attend?

  • Collaborative Space: If you鈥檙e co-teaching, bring your partner along to work together in a supportive environment.
  • Interdisciplinary Networking: Connect with colleagues from various fields, share insights, and learn from each other鈥檚 experiences.
  • Hands-On Experience: Engage in practical activities that will directly impact your course design.
  • Transferable Process: Participate in a course design process that helps you effectively prepare for the term ahead and is transferable to all courses.

What to Expect?

In this course design institute, you'll explore evidence-based practices to:

  • Develop and/or refine your course learning outcomes.
  • Brainstorm ideas for assessment and learning activities.
  • Review and advance your course design and teaching on decolonization, accessibility, inclusivity, anti-racism, and global engagement.
  • Apply principles of course design to improve student engagement and learning.

By the end of the institute, you will have a solid foundation ready for your teaching in the fall. The activities will include both formal and informal discussions, dedicated individual work periods, and opportunities for collaboration.

Registration Criteria

Teaching fellows and adjuncts from across Queen鈥檚 University are welcome to attend the Course Design Institute. However, due to limited capacity (30 participants), priority will be given to those who:

  • Are teaching courses in the Fall 2024 semester.
  • Are committed to attending the entire institute.

Participants are invited to bring their course syllabus/syllabi to engage in hands-on, practical work during the institute.

Registration deadline: Monday, August 19, 2024

Accessibility Statement

The Centre for Teaching and Learning strives to make its events accessible to all members of the Queen鈥檚 community by offering some online and others in-person, as well as recording wherever possible. There are many factors that influence and constrain how online offerings are designed, delivered, and facilitated. We recognize however that this design and approach does not result in identical experiences for all. If possible, contact ctl@queensu.ca in advance for any access needs or accommodation. Facilitators will be available throughout the Course Design Institute should accessibility needs arise, and you can always reach out to ctl@queensu.ca.
