In so many ways, my decision to attend Queen's was the most pivotal and important in my life to that point. I vividly remember my studio visit and portfolio session in Ontario Hall, the palpable feeling that it was a place unlike anything I had ever known. The understated, sometimes under-the-radar nature of the BFA Programme gave me the opportunity to learn, to share, to be myself, and in many ways, figure out just who I was as a young artist. The long list of amazing faculty that supported me during and after my studies taught me a panoply of skills – of course – but more acutely, they taught me about passion. This is the same passion that I attempted to bring with me when I returned to teach in the BFA Programme at Queen's in 2005-6, and that which I endeavour to give to my present students at the University of Regina. Queen's, in and of itself is special, but it is the people that make it extraordinary. I met my beautiful wife in Victoria Hall residence, my Frontenac Street housemates are still my closest friends, and I even named my son after Queen's Printmaking Prof. T. What else can I say?! I love Queen's!
