Art Conservation student restores pieces for the National Gallery of Canada

Patrick Gauthier was a first year student when he began working to repair and restore Whatif/Twilight by Ron Moppett. The National Gallery of Canada had received the painting - which had been exposed to flooding and was severely damaged - and had hopes of restoring it for display.

Students with a background in the sciences or humanities come from around the world for the ³ÉÈË´óƬ Master in Art Conservation Program (MAC). In the first week of the two-year program, students begin working with art objects (paintings, artifacts or paper objects) as they learn to properly clean and restore them.
